How the anti-theft system for copper cables works
The system, through a standard LiteWIRE optical fiber cable or with anti-rodent armor, protects cables and the opening of access points such as manhole covers and cable tray lids. Intrusion is detected before the thief can directly reach the cables.

The operating principle of the system is linked to the variation of the light signal: the plastic optical fiber cable is laid together with the copper cables to be protected and fixed to the covers. When a theft attempt causes a bending or breakage of the optical fiber, the LiteCOPPER sensor detects the variation of the coded signal and generates an alarm.
If, following the theft attempt, the optical fiber cable undergoes permanent deformation, the analyzer automatically adapts to the new operating conditions, restoring cable protection.
The copper cable protection system consists of three elements:
- LiteCOPPER: sensor that sends and receives a coded light signal, controlling its variations; manages up to 250m of fiber.
- LiteWIRE: plastic optical fiber cable that carries the light signal and “reads” deformations; can be standard or armored for installations in underground pipes.
- Fast bolt, in both standard and armored cable versions, to fix the optical fiber to the cable tray lid or manhole cover. Any attempt to open the access point causes deformation of the optical fiber cable connected to it and generates an alarm.
During all installation phases, the optical power meter integrated into the LiteCOPPER analyzer allows the operator to monitor the correct laying and fixing of the optical fiber.
Advantages of the copper cable protection system
- Signals an alarm at the mere attempt to open the manhole cover or alarmed cable tray lids (possible to protect all or only some).
- Protects both cables and access points.
- Easy and quick to install.
- No maintenance required after installation.
- Invisible.
- Also for existing systems.
- Cables and access points remain inspectable and maintainable.
- Totally immune to electromagnetic interference generated by the protected cables.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How many meters of cable can I protect with a single LiteCOPPER analyzer?
Each analyzer protects up to 250m of cable. For underground installations, this distance already includes the protection of 10 manholes; for cable tray installations, this distance already includes the protection of 25 covers.
- Which alarm control panels is the LiteCOPPER analyzer compatible with?
With all alarm control panels. The alarm output is an NC clean contact.
- How are the quick bolts fixed to the manhole cover?
The bolts are supplied with a special plug that allows fixing in both metal and concrete manholes (or other materials).
