Alarm on perimeter flexible fences

Flexible fences, like chain link fences, can be easily and effectively protected by attaching a plastic fiber cable LiteWIRE to it and connecting the cable to an analyser, LiteFENCEThis analyser sends and receives an encrypted optical signal, which cannot be tapped or replicated, and continually checks for variations generated by stresses on the plastic fiber. When the signal received by LiteFENCE has variations or interruptions, the analyser generates an alarm. LiteFENCE is not sensitive to vibrations on the plastic fiber, which eliminates false alarms caused by vibrations (e.g. weather conditions, vehicles passing by…)

All the area inside and outside the fence remains fully available and walkable: people and vehicles can move near the fence also when the perimeter protection system is active. Anti-intrusion detection can be kept active also H24.

How it works

The perimeter intrusion detection  system for flexible fences is composed of 3 elements:

  • LiteFENCE: an optical analyser that sends a light signal and analyses the flow of light it receives.
  • LiteWIRE: the cable in plastic optical fiber (with anti-UV filters) which transmits the light signal
  • Tensioning bolts: opto-mechanic accessories which transform the flexion of the cable into a variation of light signal

A user-friendly, built-in Power Meter helps the installer check if the fiber has been placed correctly thoughout the installation.

When an attempt of climbing over/lifting the fence causes flections of the fiber or interrupts it, the optical analyser LiteFENCE detects the variations of the light signal and triggers an alarm. After that, if the fiber has remained intact, the system re-sets automatically, adapting to the (new) position.

Wind and vibrations caused by weather conditions and moving vehicles do not cause the fence to bend and so they do not trigger any alarms. For this reason, the installation of the perimeter protection system is simple, free of false alarms and does not require the learning of any software program, ensuring a ‘stop to false alarms’.

Depending on the level of protection required, one or more lines of cable can be run along the fence.

In case of a 1.8m high fence:

  • 1 fiber to detect breaking through and, depending on the fence, attempts to climb over;
  • 2 fibers  to detect climbing over and lifting ;
  • 3 fibers  to detect climbing over and lifting on 2m high fences;
  • 4 fibers  to create an anti-breach barrier, which is difficult to overcome even in case the fence is cut

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if cats or dogs lean against the secured fence?

Cats climbing over the fence are too light to generate an alarm.

Small size dogs leaning against the fence dont usually trigger an alarm, whereas big size dogs leaning against the fence might trigger an alarm.

Does this system detect if the fence is cut?

This system is not sensitive to vibrations  and for this reason is extremely robust to false alarms. This system does not sense if a single thread of fence is cut. However, if a hole or breach is created in the fence, the mesh would bend and this flection would trigger an alarm.

If the fiber is accidentally cut, can I repair it?

Yes, the fiber can be repaired mechanically, using a coupler which joints two connectors. To terminate the fiber you can use asic electrician’s tools, as shown in this video on fiber termination.
